About us

Allwyn and Tania first met in 2014, at a Modern Jive social event (surprise surprise), where they hardly spoke a word to one another.

Over the coming months they’d run into each other at dance classes first in Dandenong, then in Prahran, and go out for coffee and food after classes and dance parties with a large group of dance friends. As they lived in the same general direction (outer South Eastern suburbs), Allwyn offered Tania a lift home after a social dance event (of course), a Christmas BBQ. From there they started talking about their jobs, study, passions and ambitions. Through their passion for Modern Jive, and after attending many dance classes, events, competitions and other social events, including attempts at setting them up (thanks Tegan) they eventually ended up chatting over messenger and got closer and closer.

In August 2015, after Tania asked Allwyn how he was going to be introducing her to some of his friends that she hadn’t met before, Allwyn finally asked her out (officially).

This must have gone particularly well, as their first big adventure together was up to the Daintree Rainforest in January 2016. Staying in Cape Tribulation, 3 hours North of Cairns, outside mobile reception for a week, after dating for barely 5 months, with deadly crocodiles and cassowaries lurking anywhere nearby, was an early test of their relationship.

Two years later Allwyn and Tania were both in very new jobs, Allwyn with a medium sized consulting firm working in the Energy sector and Tania finally breaking into the environmental field, sparking a move to regional Victoria which included both of them moving out of home to a town they barely knew, together, and both trying to find their feet in their new roles.

Allwyn and Tania decided to challenge their relationship further by travelling internationally on several occasions over the coming years, mostly to attend weddings, travelling around NZ in 2017, around Europe (twice!) in 2018 and around the UK in 2019.

In August 2018, Allwyn nonchalantly invited Tania out for dinner after work on a Thursday night to celebrate three years together.

They enjoyed their meal, talking about the good, bad, crazy and hilarious memories. As they jumped into the car after dinner, Allwyn suggested they revisit an old favourite look-out spot with a good view of the city skyline on a clear night.

After a lot of chatting and laughter, Allwyn got into some serious topics discussing their commitments already made and their future together. He then presented Tania with a very small gift box, to which she thought “what could anyone fit into that tiny box?” He opened it to reveal a ring, then asked her to marry him.

After several long moments of being more focused on being extremely impressed that Allwyn had completely surprised her, Tania finally responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!”.
